The Bee Gees top Smooth FM’s alternative ‘warmest 500’

IT’S the other countdown on January 26 — Smooth FM’s Top 500 is the alternative to the alternative Hottest 100.
The Bee Gees’ How Deep is Your Love has been voted the No 1 song for 2017 — which could be seen as the ‘Warmest 500’.
While it isn’t voted by listeners like the Hottest 100, the station says it is the 500 most loved songs played on the station.

Barry Gibb told the station “For one of our tunes to make it to No 1 is everything. I think that people who listen to our songs are the best people in the world and this is how they show it, thank you.”
The 1977 ballad beat out ABBA’s Dancing Queen, also released in 1977, for the title.
Previous winners include I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston and Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond — which both feature again in this year’s Top 10.

Capitol Records – Bee Gees

Capitol Records plan to market Bee Gees music on a huge way
Barry is very keen to promote new Bee Gees releases
Capitol is very excited about it!!...

Looking back at when Andy Gibb topped the charts with ‘Shadow Dancing’

Being the youngest brother of the members of super group The Bee Gees couldn’t have been easy. However, it was on this day in 1978 Andy Gibb came into his own with the release of his second studio album and it’s number one single of the same name Shadow Dancing.

Shadow Dancing is a slow disco track that you can’t help but tap your toes and smile. The song produced under the direction of uber-talent Albhy Galuten. Albhy was the producer behind most of the Bee Gees number one hits. He also produced the hits Grease for Frankie Valli, Woman in Love for Barbra Streisand, and the mega hit Islands in the Stream for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
Normally Andy’s brothers would be in the studio with him helping him mix the album, as they wrote all the songs with them. Though this time they had the best excuse to miss these sessions as they were away filming Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Their absence resulted in an album that, while it was his second, was the first one that felt 100 percent, Andy.

The song was number one all around the world became a platinum record cementing Andy Gibb as a disco giant. This song and its album were the peaks of Andy’s career as it tragically started in a downward in the early 80s. Substance abuse resulted in him from being fired from the Solid Gold television program and the stage production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Tragically, Andy passed away in 1988 at the age of 30, but his music lives on as well as his electric performances that left the audiences screaming for more. A teen idol that became a disco megastar is one of the reasons that Shadow Dancing will forever be in our playlists.

The Gibb Collective (Official) Album Teaser 1

ThGibb Family Honors Their Legacy With Bee Gees Tribute Album

The children of all four brothers Gibb record an album of classic songs for release in 2017 The rich musical legacy of the Bee Gees and their brother Andy Gibb continues to entertain millions of fans across the globe, and today the next generation of Gibbs announced a project honoring their music with new interpretations of classic songs. Spearheaded by Maurice’s daughter Samantha and producer Lazaro Rodriguez, the project features contributions from ten different members of the family including children of all four brothers - Maurice, Robin, Andy, and Barry, who released his third solo album this year.

Sparked by Samantha and Lazaro creating one Bee Gees cover on their own, and long awaiting the right time to do a tribute, they realized the musical potential here and that it was time to do something more. Samantha reached out to her siblings and cousins and very quickly they all agreed to take part. “Everyone wanted to be involved. We are all true fans of their [Bee Gees] music and there is a connection for us, family,” says Samantha.

Each family member, some of whom are working on albums of their own, were left to their own devices to create unique and personal versions of songs from the brothers' amazing catalog of music. This labor of love brings a fresh flavor to the music and showcases the sheer talent across this incredible family. One track, in particular, will send chills down your spine as you hear four children harmonizing together, reminiscent of the sound that brought their fathers to prominence decades before.

“We are very excited to share this collection of songs with everyone, especially long time fans of our fathers’ music,” says Samantha Gibb. “This has been an amazing experience with the whole family working together to create something really special.”

The album is scheduled for a Spring 2017 release. More details to come soon including track listings and full creditse

Bee gees song by George Michael

JIVE TALKIN’ — Boogie Box High
Released in 1987, Boogie Box High was a project by George Michael’s friend Andros. For legal reasons George couldn’t be credited, but he sings this Bee Gees hit as well as the brothers Gibb. The Boogie Box High album also featured two rejected and recycled Wham! songs included Soul Boy (the unreleased Wham! version is on youtube ). Andros and Michael (who are often mistakenly labelled cousins) started the label Aegean Records in the mid ‘90s but soon after fell out. Andros wrote a book called Rock: The Luckiest Man In Pop in 2012 talking about their friendship and hoping they could reconcile. They never did. Michael was godfather to Andros’ son James, who is a DJ on US reality TV show Vanderpump Rules.

Bee Gees performed on stage at Kyabram and Cohuna

The Bee Gees performed on stage at Kyabram and Cohuna on three separate occasions in the 1960s.
At each appearance on stage in Kyabram they were backed by the “Lonely Ones” band.
The three Gibb brothers – Barry and twins Robin and Maurice Gibb – were managed by their father Hugh Gibb.

The Bee Gees first performed at the Kyabram Town Hall dance on Friday, September 27, 1963, followed five months later by another performance on Friday, January 31, 1964.
The advertisement in the Kyabram Free Press read as follows – “LONELY ONES DANCE presents the fabulous BEE GEES - Stars of Sydney TV, Radio and Record – with the Mighty *LONELY ONES; *REBELETTES ; *RON EASDON; *JIMMY McINTYRE”

Their third and final appearance on stage in Kyabram was Friday, November 18, 1966, where they performed their hit at the time – “Spicks and Specks” – which had reached No. 4 on the Hit Parade.
They were again backed by the “Lonely Ones” with guest artist Glenys Hewitt.
The promoters of the dance were Hooper and Thompson of Cohuna.

The Bee Gees could only come down from Sydney for two nights – the Saturday night was at Cohuna.

They had changed their image to suit the times with long hair and “mod” clothes.
They sailed for England a week later on November 25, 1966, to start their famous career.
